Terms of Service

Last updated: January 1, 2026

1. Overview

PDF Private provides browser‑based tools to process PDF files locally using WebAssembly and modern browser technologies. Files are not uploaded to our servers. The site is hosted in the United States and may use third‑party content delivery networks (CDNs) and privacy‑friendly analytics configured to minimize data collection.

2. Eligibility

No account is required. By using the service, you confirm legal capacity and compliance with applicable laws.

3. Service Description

  • Client‑side processing occurs on your device/browser.
  • Compatibility may vary by browser/OS; we do not guarantee support for all environments.
  • We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time.

4. User Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for:

  • Ensuring rights to the files you process;
  • Maintaining backups of your files;
  • Verifying results for accuracy and suitability;
  • Using an up‑to‑date, secure device/browser.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the service to infringe IP/privacy rights, process illegal content/malware, reverse‑engineer/bypass limits, or violate laws.

6. Client‑Side Processing & Security

Processing is local. Device/browser security is your responsibility (extensions, OS behavior). We cannot ensure the security of your environment.

7. Third‑Party Services & International Transfers

We may use CDNs and analytics providers. Where we collect limited technical data (see Privacy Policy), transfers may occur to the United States.

  • If a provider participates in the EU‑US Data Privacy Framework (DPF), transfers may rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision.
  • If not, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and supplementary measures, as required under GDPR Articles 44–49.

Details appear in the Privacy and Cookie Policies.

8. Intellectual Property

All site content, trademarks, and software are owned by PDF Private or licensors. You retain ownership of your files.

9. No Warranty

The service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE." We disclaim all warranties, express or implied.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including data loss, business interruption, lost profits). Our total liability shall not exceed €50 or the amount you paid (if any) in the prior 12 months.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify PDF Private against claims arising from your use or breach of these Terms.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted with a revised date. Continued use constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by French law. Exclusive jurisdiction lies with the courts of Nice, France, unless mandatory law provides otherwise.
